"Nearly Yummy Mummy in Paris" is published!

Finally, the first copies of "Nearly Yummy Mummy in Paris" were posted to the distributors today. They should be hitting the bookshops and Amazon soon! Not to mention the most important ones - those destined for the launch at Brentano's bookstore in Paris on Thursday 18 December....

And this is where "Nearly Yummy Mummy in Paris" was mainly written...

I agree with JK Rowling on one point: cafés really ARE the best place to write books. And you'd think, living in Paris, that would be easy, wouldn't you? After all, Paris must be full of cafés just waiting to welcome the budding writer....Wrong. The average Parisian café has a row of unfriendly men propping up the bar and no place to plug anything in, not to mention a scowling waiter. So I was about to give up and opt for the madness at home, when I discovered...of all places, STARBUCKS. I kid you not. Where else can you buy one capuccino, plug in, and spend the whole day tucked happily into a corner, typing away with nobody to bother you? And Starbucks on Boulevard des Capucines (pictured) has a ceiling covered with gilded angels which would put Versailles to shame. So, ta da....this is where NYMP was written!

Lucky me to land a star illustrator!

I can't believe my luck that Lucy Truman was asked to do the cover design for NYMP. She's a real star, and is at the cutting edge illustration company New Division. Just look at this example of her work!

Vive le Tricoleur!

And here's the layout initially chosen for the front cover of NYMP (the illustration would be inserted at a later stage). The red, white and blue is very French, I must say....

(Later note: This layout was eventually replaced by the pink cover we have now, on advice of the cover designers. I would have been sad except I love the candy pink too much!)

Not a pretty sight....

And here is an early working draft of "Nearly Yummy Mummy in Paris"! Can you believe that this mess of scrawlings and post-its could become a novel? I'm trying hard to do just that....

All set for publication!

I can't believe that (finally!) "Nearly Yummy Mummy in Paris" is about to be published! But I don't have much time for a glance of champagne or to finesse the finer points of the book. I've got to get the cover sorted, the book libel read, and the medical bits checked by my gynacologist!
